How many people in Canada and or worldwide die from GPS accidents annualy?
What I mean is, you hear the stories of the people who die from programming their GPS while driving, or looking at their GPS and not the road for to long. So, in Canada or the whole world, how many people die from those kind of GPS accidents in a year? Thanks for your help!

It would be very hard to say, since ‘GPS Mishap’ is not noted on the accident report, or even whether or not the person was using a GPS.

There is a major category of accident causation, you might call it ‘distraction while driving’. Cellphones cause this, or even just conversing with someone in the passenger seat. (Studies have shown that just having a conversation with someone in the car raises your chances of having an accident as much as using a cellphone.) GPS accidents fit into this category.

We’ve all heard stories about people who drove off a bridge or into a building or off a cliff because the GPS said ‘Turn right, NOW’. I don’t think that happens very often. But it’s probably more common that someone has an accident because they were -looking- at the GPS when they should have been watching the road. But the statistics are not really available.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that there are around 6,000 Americans that are killed annually due to driver distractions, so if you figure everything that can distract you then it would be around 250…………

There are about 160,000 road accidents in Canada every year and according to the Transportation Safety Board approximately 2800 to 2900 people are killed on Canadian roads each year which is pretty safe so in Canada it has to be 50 to 100 that get killed by driver distraction…….
